nearly there...

SNOW DAY! (almost)

I checked the internets so many times this morning hoping for a snow day, hoping I could crawl back into bed and wait there in the warmth for the day to start around me. Oh well, at least I got the early start I should be getting everyday anyways.

The DDRD conference is over, which is a good thing. It was fun and a good experience, but man was it at a bad time - now I've got some time to actually do school work, catch up on sleep and do some things that I've really been missing.

we tie-dyed last night - grrrrrreat success!

Well its been a year...

So I (once again) forgot completely that this little piece of cyber real estate actually existed. I've set up a couple new blogs, both far more interesting than this one:
fieldhouse.wordpress.com
glendonrootsshoots.wordpress.com

Now that I've remembered this is here, I may have to use it!

Or delete it, who knows.

So I've spent the past week in Kingston, visiting Katharine, Sarah and their friends. Laurie was here last weekend too. Its been a nice little getaway from both home and from school - something I've needed. Getting away from the places and contexts that you are immersed can help you find perspective. Even though I constantly feel the itch for some new experience, whether it be a new class, school, trip or what have you, I now feel that in the long run everything will be fine regardless. Life has this funny way of working out, if you let it. I'm seriously considering the life of an academic now - Laurie and Katharine were talking to me about being a prof. Kat seems to think that I'll get a PhD one day. Thats a long way away, and definitely not has hands-on a life that I want right now. We'll see though, learning is such an important part of my life - but again, its all so far away. later skater

Bureaucrazy

For the past few months I've been considering altering my degree a little bit, and now I'm considering altering it a lot. I've been looking at the International Development programme at Keele and I really like what I see. At the same time, I really don't want to leave my programme here at Glendon either - it has much more of a theoretical and analytical grounding than the Devs programme. I'm just getting bogged down in the whole process of actually minoring/double-majoring in Devs. Hopefully I can get it sorted out by Reading Week.

Taking the Time

So much for regular postings. A lot of things have changed since August, and a lot of things have stayed the same. I'm learning to surround myself with, and think about, those things that make me happiest. I know that you life isn't always conducive to optimism, but I'm beginning to realize more and more that being happy, and leading a productive life is a choice. There are aspects of our personality and things that we consider constant and beyond our ability to change in life. Most of these things only seem to be that way. Taking time and perspective, really distilling your thoughts, desires, goals and needs down can be difficult, but incredibly enlightening. I'm talking to old friends more and realizing that I can lead life the way I want to without sacrificing who I am; I can do things for me and for other people. Well, I sincerely hope I post more often than every 5 months from now on. We'll see how it goes.

Brynn was here for the weekend, which was quite a nice time. I'm looking forward to going back to Glendon in a few weeks, I've been missing the regularity and atmosphere and all the people there.

well, this has been a mediocre post at best, but I'll try to get back into the swing of things soon...
